Grade Acceleration

Overview

Arlington ISD’s grade acceleration program, in accordance with state and district guidelines, allows students enrolled in an AISD school the opportunity to advance a particular grade level based upon their scores on content-area exams.

Accelerating a Grade via Examination

Students may accelerate a grade in which they have had no prior instruction if:

  • The student’s parent or guardian gives written approval for the acceleration AND
  • The student scores an 80% or higher on each section (language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies) of a district-approved, criterion-referenced test.

Students may earn credit by exam for subjects in which they have had prior instruction if:

  • The student’s parent or guardian gives written approval for the acceleration AND
  • The student scores a 70% or higher on each section (language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies) of a district-approved, criterion-referenced test.

General Information

Grade acceleration tests are free of charge to students enrolled in Arlington ISD and are administered at the campus in which the student is enrolled.  A student may not attempt to accelerate a particular grade via examination more than two times.  Grade acceleration tests should be scheduled in consultation with school staff and in accordance with the district testing calendar.  Grade acceleration tests are not timed.
