Earn College Credit While in High School

Project Lead The Way® (PLTW) is a not-for-profit organization that promotes pre-engineering courses for middle and high school students. PLTW forms partnerships with public schools, higher education institutions and the private sector to increase the quantity and quality of engineers and engineering technologists graduating from our educational system.   Courses taken can be articulated into engineering class credit at these and other affiliate universities.

Introduction to Engineering Design:

I.E.D uses a design development process while enriching problem solving skills; students create and analyze models using Autodesk Inventor software.  Students must take this as the first course in the sequence of courses offered in the AISD Engineering Program.  Grades 9-12

Principles of Engineering:

P.O.E. explores technology systems and manufacturing processes in a hands on manner; it also addresses the social and political consequences of technological change.  Students should take P.O.E. after I.E.D.  Grades 10-12

Aerospace Engineering:

A.E. expands horizons with Projects developed with NASA-aerodynamics, astronautics, space-life sciences, and systems engineering.  A.E. is very hands on with advanced modeling, prototyping and wind tunnel testing. Units on Remotely Operated Vehicles and Orbital Mechanics are also included.   POE should be taken before or concurrently.  Grades 10-12

Digital Electronics:

This course provides a foundation for students who are interested in computer science, electrical engineering, electronics, or circuit design. Students study topics such as combinational and sequential logic and are exposed to circuit design tools used in industry, including logic gates, integrated circuits, and programmable logic devices.  POE should be taken before or concurrently.  Grades 10-12
