This course is the first of a series of four courses in the Project Lead the Way Biomedical Science sequence. Throughout the sequence students will develop teamwork, communication, organizational, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills and will investigate a variety of careers in biomedical sciences. In this course, students investigate body systems and health conditions, including heart disease, diabetes, sickle-cell disease, and infectious diseases. They determine factors that led to the death of a fictional person and investigate lifestyle choices and medical treatments that might have prolonged the person's life. Activities and projects introduce students to human physiology, medicine, and research processes. Key biological concepts are embedded in the curriculum. 
This course is worth one credit.

Grade Placement: 9-12
Prerequisites: 9th-Biology or concurrent; 10th-12th-Biology and taking grade level science
