Academic Decathlon always studies ten categories:

Math, Science, Economics, Social Science (history), Language & Literature, Art, Music, Essay, Speech, and Interview

At competition, nine of the ten categories are timed.  Interview is not timed.

You will take a multiple choice test in the first seven categories listed.

For the essay, you will be given a choice of three prompts.  You must choose one and write a well-developed essay.  The prompts may come from Science, Economics, Social Science, Art, Music, or Language & Literature.

In the speech competition, you will deliver a 4 minute, prepared speech and then immediately deliver a 2 minute impromptu speech.

Each category is worth 1000 points.

What do we do in class?

We will spend our class time studying the resource guides, writing essays, and writing/practicing our speeches.  We may spend some time studying together and some time studying silently.  In November, we will go to the PDC and see who is serious and who is fooling around.

The Academic Decathlon Team has nine members:

            3 Honors (A Average*)

            3 Scholastic (B Average*)

            3 Varsity (C Average*)

Your grade in Ac Dec will be based upon assignments completed, practice quizzes, and extra study time.
