Welcome to Alan Lang's Home Page

Mr. Alan Lang is currently teaching his tenth year at Lamar High School. He became a Lamar Fine Arts staff member in the fall of 2005 after teaching in Oklahoma for four years. Mr. Lang is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma, with a bachelor’s degree in instrumental music education. During his college years he was a member of the 1998 Phantom Regiment Drum & Bugle Corps where he studied with professional trumpeter Peter Bond of the NYC Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. Alan has worked as a DCI instructor (Pioneer 2003-2006, Revolution 2008-2011) as visual caption head and occasionally brass, marching or color guard technician. As director of bands, Mr. Lang is the director of the Wind Symphony, The Pride of Lamar Marching Band, the jazz program, and associate director of the full orchestra. He has been the drill designer for the marching band and wrote the drill for the award winning LHS indoor drumline. The jazz band has participated in and competed in the Essentially Ellington jazz program since he started here in 2005. As a director at Lamar, Mr. Lang has taken the band on many trips, including, Crested Butte, Memphis, Orlando, Corpus Christi, Winter Park, South Padre and San Antonio.

GRADES

The following grading standards are used for all band classes.

Performance grades:

Include class participation, section rehearsal participation, and performances.

Daily TEKS Prep grade:

Include having all supplies, music, instrument, and taking instrument home each day. Students must also demonstrate a positive attitude and proper preparation for class.

Objective grades:

Scales, scale exercises, rhythm studies, tone studies, etudes, solos, and more assigned each six weeks.

Final grade:

Performance 40%                  Daily TEKS Prep 35%               Objective Sheet 25%

 

Students who do not perform at minimum expectation levels may be removed from contest participation.
