  • Ooh la la!  Love is the in air!  Buy your special someone something sweet and maybe they'll share.  The French Club will be selling chocolate covered strawberries Friday, Feb. 5th through Wednesday, Feb. 10 outside the Band Hall during both lunches. The cost is $2.75 for 3 or $1 for 1.  Make this Valentines one to remember!
  • Asian Student Association is back! We will have our club meeting today after school in Mr. Wou's room, Room 1025. We will discuss our plan to celebrate Chinese New Year with a Lantern Festival!!!---
  • The Lamar Lieutenant Generals and Lady Lieutenants present their annual step show, Step Battle Royale at Bowie High School on February 13th at 3p.  Presale tickets are $8 and $10 at the door. You may purchase a ticket from any step team member. Please come out and support!! See you there!---
  • All money for AP reservations will be taken in the main office at the Fine's Window. Please make sure that you reserve your tests before February 17th. No more test reservations will be taken after 3:00PM on the 17th.---
  • "Please join us this toay at 3pm in rm 1103 for the first meeting of the the Lamar High School Fashion Club.  The club will provide fun workshops and activities involving fashion, design, and merchandising. Be one of the first to join Lamar's Fashion Club".---
  • SENIORS: This week is the last call for UTA Applications before the Scholarship Deadline. See Mrs. Jones or the Go Center in the library to get help applying or turning in documents before it’s too late!---
  • Key Club  members wishing to seek office in 2016-2017 should give your name or nomination to Mrs. Chamberlain at todays meeting. Elections will be held in March. Any active member may seek nomination to to serve as an officer.—
  • The Lamar varsity winterguard competed in the Winter Guard International, Dallas Regional this past Saturday. Lamar advanced to finals, finishing in 8th place out of 24 schools and beating Martin! Congrats on a great weekend Viking winterguard!---
  • If you are a sophomore interested in joining the IB program for your junior year, there is still time!  Please stop by room 285 and pick up an enrollment packet and turn in to Ms. Hitt in room 285 by Thursday, February 18.---
  • Sophomores and juniors with a 10.00 or better cumulative average are invited to attend a meeting tomorrow, Thursday, 2/11, at 2:50 P.M. in the library to learn about how to apply for membership in National Honor Society.  If you are average-eligible, you should have already received an invite letter from your English teacher.  If you didn't receive a letter yet, please check with Mr. Williams in Room 236 or Mr. Cinolotac in Room 1104 or stop by the meeting tomorrow after school.---

  • Please congratulate the following Orchestra students for receiving a Superior rating this weekend at UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest:  Johna Clark, Elise Gonzalez, Wei-Chen Huang, Helen Hulsey, Danny Reyes, Jessica Vong, Han Luc, Madeline Harrington, Ryan Hazelwood, Maria Abdalla, Daniel Aguilar, David Shiu, and Sebastian Gomez… …………………………………………Benjamin Chang, Iris Chang, Danny Siu, and Karen Yang, not only received Superior ratings but also earned State certified Honors ratings.  Lastly, please wish Viking Orchestra member Helen Hulsey good luck this week as she travels to San Antonio to participate in the TMEA All State Orchestra.  She is one of only 6 orchestra students in all of AISD that made it.---
  • Attention students: the go center will be open today from 9 am - 6 pm. Come see us to get help with tutoring, registering for the SAT or ACT, and college applications.---
This year 8 Lamar theater arts students have participated in the National August Wilson Monologue competition.  The contest was available to Dallas-area high school students for the first time this year and has been organized and hosted by theater professors and professionals from SMU and Dallas Theater Center.  Students took workshops at DTC and competed at SMU.  Stakiah Washington has advanced to the second round which will take place at SMU on February 15th.  Please follow the link below to read a wonderful article about the event that mentions Lamar and our students several times.  Click HERE to read the full article. 

Our Ac Dec Team made up of Andrea R., Grace K., Lucas A., Patrick G., Pamela R., Alexis F., Maria A., and Chowdhury B. competed Essay, Speech, Interview, Math, Science, Language & Literature, Social Science, Economics, Music, and Art, on Jan 29 &30.   This year's topic was India.  Here's how we did:
  • Andrea R.- bronze in Language & Literature, bronze in Math, bronze in Science, gold in interview (with a perfect score), and had the 5th highest score our of all Honors students competing.
  • Grace K.- bronze in Science and a sliver is Speech.  Patrick G.- silver in Economics, bronze in Science, and a bronze in Social Science.
  • Maria A. - bronze in Speech. Chowdhury B. - silver in Essay.
  • Our team came in 3rd place with a final score of 30,687.8.  We will not advance to the state competition, but we could not be prouder of our team.  None of these students have ever been in Academic Decathlon before and only two of our team members are seniors!

Late Night at the Library


The Library will be open late for tutoring and studying on Tuesdays & Wednesdays from 3:00 - 6:00 pm, beginning 9/8.

Entrances to Lamar

Lamar students, parents, and visitors,
Prior to 7:35, the Band Hall, Promenade and Main Office entrances will be unlocked. After 7:35, we will lock all exterior doors except those at the Band Hall entrance and the Main office entrance. All parents and visitors may park in the main lot north of Lamar Blvd and enter through the Band Hall, or park in the lot just off Sam Curlee Blvd at the SW corner of the school. A security guard will direct visitors at the Band Hall entrance, and visitors to the Main Office entrance should check in inside the main office. Thank you!

Time to Get Ready for Next Year
If you are interested in the Health Rotations Programs please go to the web site below and fill out the first application.  The first application deadline is Feb. 26th.  Once the three Health Care Rotations' instructors receive the 1st application from the then there will be a second application and requirements that will follow for each school ( Lamar, Arlington, Bowie)

If you are interested in taking Dual Credit classes or Work Force classes this summer or next school year, please make sure you have completed the Active Apply online for TCC and you MUST attend the PAA (pronounced "paw") meeting on Thursday, January 14th in the Auditorium after school for about 45 minutes! Check with Mrs. Harris, the counselor if you have any questions. 

Project Celebration

SENIORS (Class of 2016) ~  We need you, your parents, your relatives, your friends that are age 16 or older to help us work the concession stand at A T & T Stadium as a fund-raiser for Project Celebration that will be held after prom at Lamar High School.  Click HERE for more info.
